Egils Milbergs is the founder and president of the Center for Accelerating Innovation. The Center conducts research on the innovation process and partners with corporations, associations and governments on optimizing their innovation ecosystems, strategies, models and metrics. Currently, he directs the Innovation Vital Signs project in collaboration with ASTRA (The Alliance for Science & Technology Research in America) and contributes to the U.S. Department of Commerce program on next generation frameworks for innovation indicators.
Before founding the Center for Accelerating Innovation, he served as president of the National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM), an industry-led organization aimed at improving the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing. In 1994, he founded Learning Access to advance Internet applications in the K-12 education environment and created a network of after school centers in low-income neighborhoods. In the 1980's and 90's, Milbergs served as president of the non-partisan Institute for Illinois, a partnership of the Illinois Congressional Delegation, business and research community focused on strengthening the state's economic growth through targeted investments in technology and human capital. He also served as a senior advisor to the president of Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) and gained legislative approval and budget for the stateÕs first strategic technology plan and space commercialization initiative.
From 1981-1985 Mr. Milbergs served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Productivity, Technology and Innovation at the U.S. Commerce Department. Concurrently, he served as executive director of President Reagan's Commission on Industrial Competitiveness which produced the landmark report entitled "Global Competition: The New Reality." He began his career as a program analyst at the Office of Management of Budget and staff member of the President's Council on Executive Organization. Milbergs is a graduate of Harvard College where he concentrated in public policy and economics.
