James Ku is a Manager in Tractus' Shanghai office where he is responsible for leading consulting engagements throughout Asia on behalf of multi-national clients. Mr. Ku has worked on private sector projects including site selection, market entry strategy, corporate restructuring and real estate transaction advisory. For the public sector, Mr. Ku recently created a special economic zone development strategy for the Government of Pakistan sponsored by the Competitiveness Support Fund and USAID. Mr. Ku provided a policy framework and action plan that is currently being implemented with the goal of increasing Pakistan's competitiveness.
Mr. Ku is currently managing a project for a US machinery company to relocate one of their manufacturing plants in Xuzhou, China. Mr. Ku also is assisting with the negotiations implementation including obtaining incentives and approvals from the local government. He negotiated with the built-to-suit developer on the real estate terms and construction specifications and is managing the corporate restructuring of the relocated entity to consider the tax and political impacts.
Prior to joining Tractus, Mr. Ku worked for Wells Fargo Bank's commercial real estate lending group where he underwrote construction and acquisition financing. He subsequently moved to Shanghai where his experience included working for a start-up media company and consulting on a real estate project. In March 2006, he published an op-ed in the International Herald Tribune about the challenges of doing business in China. He has also been profiled in CNN.com and The News International about his experiences in international business.
Mr. Ku received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with concentrations in finance and management. He also holds a Master in public policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
