Speaker Rey Ramsey

Rey Ramsey is the Founder and CEO of One Economy Corporation, the world's largest technology-focused nonprofit organization. One Economy connects low-income people and communities to the 21st century economy by facilitating wide-scale broadband deployments, computer acquisition, training and access to on line educational and asset building resources through a multilingual web portal called The Beehive. Since its founding in 2000, One Economy has helped bring broadband into the homes of several hundred thousand low-income people, and more than 10 million people have utilized The Beehive.

One Economy works in 42 states domestically, has initial projects in South Africa and the Middle East and is expanding rapidly into markets on four continents. Mr. Ramsey's current bold move is spearheading a campaign to establish the first Public Internet Channel—a bilingual on line destination designed for all Americans that aggregates core expert information from a network of organizations on a range of safety/emergency services, economic, educational, health and public affairs issues. United States Senators Barack Obama and John McCain serve as honorary co-chairmen of the Public Internet Channel. Mr. Ramsey has spent years creating innovative partnerships between nonprofits, government and the private sector. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times. He was a delegate at the 2007 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and is the author, with Ben Hecht, of ManagingNonprofits.org: Dynamic Management for the Digital Age (John Wiley & Sons).

Prior to the founding of One Economy, Mr. Ramsey was President and COO of The Enterprise Foundation, served in the cabinets of two governors of Oregon and practiced law. He is the immediate past chairman of Habitat For Humanity International where he oversaw the organization's responses to the tsunami in Asia and Hurricane Katrina. He holds a B.A. in political science from Rutgers University and is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School.
