Speaker Randall Smith

Mr. Smith is President of CH2M HILL's Electronics & Advanced Technology (E&AT) business, which is a widely recognized world leader in the design and construction of high-technology manufacturing facilities. Mr. Smith is responsible for the global operations of this group, including its safety, quality, financial performance and strategic planning.

During his 22 years with CH2M HILL, Mr. Smith has served in a variety of roles that have been instrumental in the company's establishment as a global leader in high-technology design and construction. Prior to his appointment as President, Mr. Smith served as a Project Administrator, Project Manager and Client Service Manager of E&AT's largest clients.

Mr. Smith's position has provided him unusual access to principal figures in some of the world's leading high-technology companies. As a result he has exceptional insight into key issues shaping the vision, performance and future aspirations of high-technology research and manufacturing. One of these key issues is sustainability, and strategies for making sustainability attractive to companies from an economic and business standpoint as well as an ethical perspective.

He has successfully applied his deep understanding of global high-technology markets to help anticipate and position CH2M HILL for success in such emerging high-technology markets as flat panel manufacturing, solar products and high-performance data centers, as well as the latest technologies being produced by the dynamic microelectronics industry.

During his years as a project manager, Mr. Smith managed a number of large microelectronics facility projects regarded as landmark achievements in complexity, cost-efficiency and unprecedented speed of fast-track delivery. In this role he assumed full responsibility for project scope, schedule, quality, and budget on projects with total construction costs in excess of $1 billion. He served as the primary contact with clients and supervised teams of 100 to 150 engineers, architects and designers.

Mr. Smith's various other prior roles as Chief Engineer and Structural Department Manager have added to the breadth of his experience in fiscal management, staff management and hands-on project execution skills. Prior to joining CH2M HILL, Mr. Smith served as a project manager and structural engineer for several firms, including Bechtel in San Francisco. In 2005 Mr. Smith received an "Oregon Stater" Award as a "Distinguished Engineer" from Oregon State University's College of Engineering. He serves on the Advisory Board of Oregon State University's College of Engineering.

Mr. Smith received his BS in civil engineering from Oregon State University. He also is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program/International Senior Management Program, an advanced and intensive curriculum in business competition and strategy, financial management, government and international economies, organizational structure and marketing.
