Speaker Kirk J. Thomson

Kirk Thomson is the Director of Environmental Affairs for The Boeing Company. In that assignment, he directs an organization whose responsibilities range from establishing environmental policies and strategies to conducting cleanup activities at contaminated sites. Regional Hazardous Waste contracts, reviews of Treatment, Storage and Disposal sites and the environmental metrics for the enterprise are also part of his responsibility. The organization is very active in the review of Environmental, Safety and Health related legislation and regulation that affect the company.

Kirk has managed the full range of energy and environmental issues during his career. The issues have included hazardous waste management, air & water quality, and property acquisition and sales. On the energy side, he has managed electricity and natural gas procurement, hedging and conservation.

A graduate of Wenatchee Valley College and the University of Washington (1970), Wenatchee Valley College named him the 1998 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Thomson taught physics and chemistry in Australia and South Africa before joining Boeing as a chemist in 1977.

Kirk represents Boeing on several national, regional and state associations and councils. He is active in the International Leadership Council of the Nature Conservancy and is on the board of directors of the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center and the Mountain to Sound Greenway. Kirk was the President of the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Coalition (WWRC) in 2003 and 2004.
